The UEFA Women’s Champions League kicks off its second matchday with excitement, and our WUCL Fantasy expert, Joe, details his current team and strategic outlook ahead of the impending deadline.
SETTING THE STAGE FOR MATCHDAY 2
After an impressive start yielding 104 points in Matchday 1, placing me 366th globally, this sets a solid foundation for upcoming rounds. It's a good position compared to past seasons, where a strong start has often signaled potential for further success. Given that many fantasy leagues function on varying strategies and results, maintaining momentum is key.
With a quick transition to Matchday 2 and the possibility of deploying the Limitless chip, I’m evaluating not just my players but also how opponents are setting up their teams. Adapting quickly can make or break a season. Here’s a look at my current lineup.
TEAM REVEAL

GOALKEEPERS
Anneke Borbe (€4.5m) is currently my choice for Wednesday's match. Despite Arsenal's rocky start, their defense has shown resilience, conceding just twice across five matches. This gives me some confidence that she can deliver points, even if the team has struggled to find their rhythm.
With Arsenal's kickoff being one of the earliest, I’ll confirm Borbe’s starting status before making final adjustments. Timing is everything; if she doesn’t start, the alternate is María Isabel ‘Misa’ Rodríguez Rivero (€4.0m) from Levante, who might not be as reliable but could be a strategic pick if she’s featured heavily in upcoming matches. If I decide to allocate my third Arsenal slot elsewhere, I might pivot to Christiane Endler (€4.5m) from OL Lyonnes or Ena Mahmutovic (€5.5m), both of whom come with their own pros and cons.
For the Thursday matches, I’m banking on Katarzyna Kiedrzynek (€5.0m). Paris Saint-Germain have yet to concede this season. Facing OH Leuven, a team they managed to keep at bay in the previous encounter, feels like an opportunity to grab more points — assuming that defense holds strong.
DEFENDERS
Historically, Arsenal's defenders excel in ball recoveries; Lotte Wubben-Moy (€5.0m) led the pack last season, while Leah Williamson (€5.5m) followed closely. Williamson is currently in my lineup after a strong performance in Matchday 1, but I might consider Emily Fox (€5.0m) or Wubben-Moy as alternatives if I see better matchups before the deadline. It's about anticipating which players are going to maximize points most effectively.
Giulia Gwinn (€5.0m) has been a key asset, scoring against Manchester City and returning 11 points in Matchday 1. Given Bayern Munich’s current form against Benfica, she’s hard to overlook as a reliable pick. Scoring defenders can significantly tilt the results in fantasy leagues, so I’m keen on keeping her onboard.
I’ve retained Selma Bacha (€5.0m), given OL Lyonnes' favorable position following a week of preparation. However, a potential swap for Wendie Renard (€6.0m) is possible, especially if starting news tips in her favor. Every decision here can count, and staying informed matters.
Thiniba Samoura (€4.0m) is my second choice from PSG, targeted for the home clash against OH Leuven — another point-grabbing opportunity.
Simone Boye Sørensen (€4.0m) rounds out my defensive lineup. Her performance against Arsenal was solid, and with Servette recently conceding heavily against Lyon, I’m hopeful for more points there. You can't ignore matchups like this.
MIDFIELDERS
I’m still surprised that Klara Bühl (€8.5m) didn’t score in Matchday 1 after missing significant opportunities. She has a track record that suggests she’ll bounce back; hence, I’m holding her in my lineup despite the risk. If you want a piece of insight — don’t underestimate her potential.
I’m also incorporating a Bayern midfield duo with Linda Dallmann (€6.5m), who provided an assist and managed solid ball recoveries last time out. The combination of form and matchup can really tilt points in your favor, but I’m still weighing my options here.
Caroline Graham Hansen (€9.5m) and Clàudia Pina (€9.0m) form another double-up with Barcelona. The way both players perform often determines how many points will flow, especially in critical matches that come midweek. This makes a triple-stack in their forwards an appealing option.
Finally, Sakina Karchaoui (€8.0m) from PSG scored a crucial penalty and played well against Real Madrid, making her a strong candidate for this week’s matchup—one I’m keen to watch unfold.
FORWARDS
Ewa Pajor (€10.5m) is likely going to be my captain following her electrifying performance in Matchday 1, where she netted two goals and registered an assist against Paris FC. To put it simply — she’s on fire.
Khadija Shaw (€9.5m) had a frustrating last outing, notably with a missed penalty, but she’s rested and ready to face Real Madrid. The risk is there, but so is potential, making her a favorable pick given her abilities when on form.
Alessia Russo (€10.5m) holds my last forward position. Even so, I’m thinking about other options as Arsenal struggles offensively this season. Alternatives like Melchie Dumornay (€6.5m) and Pernille Harder (€7.5m) are tempting, and I’ll finalize my choices closer to kickoff, especially if Arsenal's starting lineup offers any clearer insights. It’s all about being adaptive.
Wishing all the best for Matchday 2! Let’s hope for some big points!
ANALYZING MATCHDAY OUTLOOK AND STRATEGIES
What this means for you, the fantasy manager, is that staying informed is paramount. Week-to-week changes in form, injuries, and matchups can completely transform players' values. In fantasy leagues, minor adjustments can lead to significant point differentials.
The strategic deployment of chips, particularly the Limitless chip, can shift the balance dramatically—increasing potential points compared to standard play. Adaptability and awareness are your allies here. Monitoring social media for last-minute news and lineup announcements could be the difference between a winning week and falling behind.
If you're working in this space, analyze player minutes, past performances, and upcoming fixtures thoroughly. This season promises much—make sure you're prepared to seize those opportunities as they arise.
