Five Matchday 3 differentials with a case to make

Low ownership only matters if there’s a credible route to points. These five picks have one: form, a favourable opponent, or room to contribute beyond goals and clean sheets. The case is strongest where those factors overlap, though a good fixture still isn’t a guarantee.

Florian Wirtz (€8.5m) — 2% selected

Liverpool put six past LASK in Matchday 2 and now meet Villarreal, who shipped three goals away from home in their opening match. That makes the Reds’ attack an obvious place to look, especially with Florian Wirtz beginning to settle in.

Bradley Barcola will draw attention after his hat-trick last time out. Wirtz is a less popular alternative: he has assisted in each of his past two appearances across all competitions, and his growing confidence gives the pick a reasonable foundation. It’s still a bet on his progress at Liverpool, but at 2% ownership the upside is clear.

Victor Osimhen (€8.0m) — 4% selected

Lille have conceded three times in each of their first two Champions League games. That’s a difficult start, and it puts Victor Osimhen firmly in the conversation for Galatasaray’s meeting with them.

Osimhen’s European record offers more than a speculative punt: in his previous Champions League campaign, he scored seven and assisted once in 10 appearances. He’s also started the Turkish Süper Lig season with six goals and three assists in five matches. Lille’s defensive record makes the fixture appealing; Osimhen’s form gives the pick substance.

Gonçalo Inácio (€4.5m) — 3% selected

Matchday 3 Differentials

Sporting CP have won both of their opening Champions League matches, following a seventh-place finish in last season’s league phase. That finish put them above Manchester City, Real Madrid, Inter and Paris Saint-Germain. Their clean sheet away in France last time out was another encouraging sign.

Sergi Altimira may be the more familiar budget option, but Gonçalo Inácio has a broader points case. The defender can collect ball recoveries and has shown attacking potential, with goals in the league and pre-season. Sporting host LASK, giving Inácio a chance to add another defensive return. The clean sheet is never guaranteed, but he doesn’t need one to have other ways to score.

Nicolas Jackson (€7.0m) — 2% selected

Matchday 3 Differentials

Aston Villa have scored nine goals across two Champions League matches. Their 3-2 win away in Matchday 1 looks stronger after Club Brugge beat Inter, and the follow-up was a 6-0 victory over Fenerbahçe. Next up is Viking, who have conceded three times in each of their first two matches.

For managers wary of Johan Manzambi’s status, Nicolas Jackson is an inexpensive alternative at €7.0m. He has already scored three times in this Champions League campaign. With other pricier forwards carrying injury concerns, his cost and access to Villa’s scoring form make a persuasive combination. Just 2% ownership means he can also help differentiate a squad.

Archie Brown (€4.6m) — 1% selected

Matchday 3 Differentials

Fenerbahçe’s 6-0 loss to Villa makes their defence an easy one to overlook. But one heavy defeat doesn’t erase the six clean sheets they kept in their previous nine games. They host Slavia Prague, who failed to score in a loss to Champions League newcomers Sabah.

Archie Brown is a deep differential at 1% selected. He scored against Roma in Matchday 1 and returned 11 points; he also found the net against Lyon in the play-off round. The attacking full-back can offer a route to points through goals as well as defensive returns, although the Villa defeat is a reminder that Fenerbahçe’s clean-sheet prospects are not risk-free.
